Last weekend, we had the opportunity to watch Chambers at our Hoopstate Fall League at Cox Mill High School. It didn’t take more than a second to recognize Tarris Bouie and Markus Kerr are the clear focal points of this group. Both guys are nationally ranked and approach the game as highly touted players should—leaving no doubts about their assertiveness or leadership. However, losing Maurio Hanson and Jordan Patton has allowed their slew of blossoming young pieces to take the next step. Let’s take a closer look at some of those names…

Similarly, Malik McCotter is someone who has consistently progressed over the years. Entering his junior season, he’s a small guard with quality feel, playmaking instincts, and shooting prowess. McCotter might not possess elite size, but he’s tough, pesky, and knows how to impact a game. His continued emergence as a primary creator and productive piece will make him a nightly x-factor for this group.

Every team needs a guy willing to do the dirty work and little things, and Cameron Thompson fills that void extremely well. At 6-foot-5, he possesses excellent length, a high motor, and the ability to consistently impact the game without requiring touches. Thompson finishes well around the basket and spaces the floor effectively, but arguably provides most of his value through rebounding and defensive versatility. He routinely guards bigger opponents and outworks others on the glass. The better Thompson can be, the farther this squad can go.

Rounding out their core, the young pairing of Zyon White and QJ Young should each see a considerable uptick in playing opportunities. Both guys are long, wiry athletes who played hard and showcased the ability to hit shots from the perimeter. They will only continue to get stronger and physically develop, but already know how to produce within their respective roles. Expect these guys to get more and more involved as the season progresses.

It’s probably common knowledge, but Chambers should be seen as a title-contender in 4A. Losing productive, battle-tested veterans is never awesome, but another year of development for their star duo and the overall entirety of this roster should make them a difficult matchup throughout the season.
