Looking back this season, there are quite a few new names that had a tremendous season and deserve a little exposure.  One of those was actually a freshman in 2024 6'3 Trenton Sherrill, as he put up some impressive numbers and continued to impress recently at the Phenom Challenge in Spartanburg.

This past season, Sherrill led the charge for East Gaston as he averaged 19.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.7 steals in 14 games.  He is also a dual-sport athlete who plays football as well for the Warriors.

Even though he is a freshman, Sherrill quickly found out that he had to step up and be a leader on the court, as he felt like he was a little passive at first but quickly understood what he needed to do and be a go-to type player.

'Coming into my freshman season, I didn't know much of what my role was going to be but after the first game, I knew quickly I had to step up for the team,' Sherrill said.

At the Phenom Challenge, he continued to show more of his game in being an effective playmaker on the court.  Our own Jeff Bendel said: 'Sherrill is making an abundance of plays for this group.  Hitting shots, initiating the offense, and providing great effort on the glass.'

After an impressive freshman campaign and continuing to do the same this summer, Sherrill has quickly earned his name on the watch list for the 2024 class.
