Surprising no one this year, Oak Hill is back in the national spotlight with another talented group of guys this season. Yes, you certainly know the big names for head coach Steve Smith but we want to recognize a big that you may want to keep an eye on down the road.
2022 6’10 Luke McEldon is one that you will want to watch out for. Though he has played limited minutes for Oak Hill this season, McEldon could be one that is in for a surprising spring and summer.
“I would say I’m a post player but I can shoot a mid-range shot but also block shots and rebound,” McEldon told Phenom Hoops.
When speaking and learning more about his game from the staff at VA Elite (who he played with last season), they say this is a traditional, big-bodied big that can play at the 4 or 5 position. He displays really soft hands, can take up space but also moves well, running the floor, and is very agile on the court. McEldon is also very coachable, wants to learn, and picks up concepts really well and quickly.
The young big came from Bishop Walsh before heading to Oak Hill, and it could still just be the start for McEldon. Playing at Oak Hill though, it has helped him prepare his body and play against some talented players.
“I’ve lost a lot of weight and gained more muscle,” McEldon said. “I have also been a lot better at defending opponents in the post and I’ve learned a lot of post counters.”
The junior big man holds an offer from Central Arkansas already but he is also getting interest from other schools as well such as Florida, Virginia Tech, Murray State, VCU, George Washington, George Mason, Radford, Pittsburgh, and Georgia State.
Be sure though to keep Luke McEldon in the back of your mind, as he could be in for a big offseason.
