What does this mean for Kansas:
In simple terms, this is huge for the program as it gives Coach Self and the Jayhawks a big-time prospect and scorer in the coming years. There is a reason why Peterson is ranked so high and when Phenom Hoops watched him in action, we were blown away with his overall game. In describing his game, it would be best to show what we wrote back in 2023:
“Peterson is one that simply impresses me each time with what he can do on the court. When you talk about one of the most prolific scorers in the country, Peterson certainly finds himself on that list. He has that “it” factor that a lot of players don’t have; he can get what he wants when he wants. When the lights are brightest, he elevates his game to another level that you don’t always see. When operating on the court, Peterson is the one who wants the ball in his hands and simply says “get out of my way.” Whether it is creating off the bounce, knocking down shots from outside, his one-dribble pull-up game, his ability to get to the rim and showcase his athleticism, or his ability to create and be a playmaker, Peterson is one who has it all in his arsenal and does it with ease at times. He has tremendous body control, reads the floor and attacks the defender’s weakness, has a nice burst of speed but also elevates really well over defenders, can hit tough shots, and plays with a ton of energy but also with a smooth feel. There isn’t much Peterson can’t do on the court, and continues to show why he is one of the best prolific bucket-getters in the country, regardless of class.”
Peterson will bring that same mentality at the next level, giving the program a proven scorer and one that can create for himself. He has the ability to make plays and score from all levels and should be able to come into the program immediately and provide that.
