Josh Nickelberry is scoring the ball at an absolutely prolific rate. In fact, the senior hooper at Northwood Temple has a chance to be one of the most prolific scorers, on record, in North Carolina high school basketball history.
Currently, the 4-star Louisville commit is sitting on 2.281 career points, which in itself is good for 18th on the All-Time list. According to MaxPreps, his team is scheduled to play 27 games during the 2018-19 regular season. Through his first 7 games, Nickelberry has scored 225 points, per his coach, which averages out to 32.1 points per game.
If he is able to keep on this torrid pace through his 27 game, regulars season schedule, that would give him 867 total point. If you add in 3 state playoff games, that would then give Nickelberry 963 points scored this season. The significance of that is that would be the most points scored in a season, by any senior on record in North Carolina high school history.
This same 963 total points scored, through 27 regular season games and 3 playoff games, would also give him a total of 3,180 career points. This would put Nickelberry 2nd All-Time in career points scored of any player on record in North Carolina High School History, behind JamesOn Curry at 3,307 (of course we know UNC freshman Coby White broke Curry’s record last season, but that record was not acknowledged by the NCHSAA).
Yes, Josh Nickelberry is a prolific scorer and one of the best basketball players this state has seen. If he continues on this torrid path, oh yea he is also shooting 55% from the field and 92% from the free throw line, he will go down in North Carolina high school history.
