Saturday we were in the building for one of the biggest commitments in our class of ’18, Greensboro Day and Team CP3 guard John Newman announced the next chapter of his basketball career.

It was a packed house of family, friends, teammates and local media, as they packed East Coast Wings in New Garden. Everyone patiently waiting for 6:45 to hit, the moment Newman chose to go live on Instagram with his decision. Clemson, Virginia, Providence, and Wake Forest were among the final four. Each university had something different to offer from education to the hardwood, with another season of high school ball left Newman had to consider every programs potential situations a year from now.

After crossing out three of the teams logos Newman stood up unzipped his jacket and revealed Clemson purple and orange. Coach Brad Brownell landed his first recruit in this cycle and it was a huge win for the Tigers program.

Newman is one of the most complete two way guards in this class he impacts the game in many ways, as he's a good passer as well as a scorer. Newman is efficient on the boards and takes pride in guarding the opposition’s best player. From day one, Newman will bring intensity and a winning pedigree to Clemson, a program that's on the rise recently in college hoops toughest conference.

Guys love playing with Newman because of his unselfish team first demeanor. What stands out is Newman's competitive nature, playing the game with a chip on his shoulder and embraces the underdog role. This is a guy who isn't going to back down from anyone, Newman is confident in his game and has cooked plenty of guys more highly touted than himself.

'I've been slept on my whole life and my teams have been slept on, but I've always delivered, my teams have always delivered and done great things,” said Newman.

Newman is happy with the decision and believes he can bring an element to Clemson they're currently missing. 'I bring a defensive edge, I bring it on both sides of the court. I can score the basketball and defend, they want me to come in and be aggressive from the start,” said Newman.

Clemson is in the mix for several other NC prospects in 2018 and Newman plans to be active on the recruiting trail pitching CU to his talented peers. 'I'm going to try and bring some dogs with me Clemson is a great place.'

Coach Brownell and staff are off to a solid start with Newman and they have a solid building block, if they can add a few more pieces this could be a program defining freshman class.
