The journey of a basketball player can be a long, winding road full of ups and downs. Few players understand this concept more than Joel Baucom. On Tuesday, the 6-foot-3 guard prospect made the decision to further his playing career at Pfeiffer University. In order to understand what all they are getting, we can simply look back at his body of work'

After battling for minutes as a freshman and sophomore at Davidson Day, Baucom found himself earning meaningful playing opportunities as a junior. He came off the bench, posed a major shooting, and excelled within his role. Later that season, Baucom claimed his first state championship. The sharpshooter opted to join Combine Academy soon thereafter, which would ultimately become a major domino within his overall development as a prospect.

Though Baucom had previously been tasked with finding ways to fit in, it was only going to become more challenging with new pieces in place. However, this wasn't an unfortunate situation for him'especially as someone who immediately stepped on campus as one of Combine's top three-point shooters. It really didn't take long for him to find a cozy role while also visibly progressing as a creator, defender, and rebounder. Baucom's value steadily increased throughout the entirety of his time with the Goats. We sat down with Baucom discuss his journey, support system, and his decision to commit to the Falcons over various other choices.

PHR: What led to your decision to commit to Pfeiffer'

JB: What really sealed the deal for me was just seeing how much Coach Don and Coach Schoch really wanted and needed me. They kept telling me how much they needed me as a shot-maker. They told me that they have all the confidence in me to provide meaningful minutes and produce for them as a freshman. That's really what sold it for me: just how confident and how much they expressed needing me. Coach Don and I have a really strong, close relationship. He has really shown love all along, and expressed specifically how much he loved me and my game. He really connected with my family and showed interest in my future (as well as my family members).

PHR: Speak to those who helped during your journey.

JB: I wouldn't be here without the help of Coach Jeff, Coach Sim, and Coach Keenan, and all their love and support over the years. They've been father figures in my life. I couldn't be more appreciative for them.
