On Monday, Combine Academy announced the parting of ways with Head Coach Jeff McInnis. This understandably sent shockwaves throughout the grassroots and high school community, as McInnis essentially achieved more during his three seasons in Lincolnton than most coaches accomplish during their entire career. Between his (81-15) record, two Hoopstate Championships (in three appearances), and national-level success while consistently playing one of the most difficult schedules in the country, he proved more than capable of taking this program to the next level. Even after the split, McInnis' status among the top coaches in the nation remains unchanged.

This article isn't looking to explain or dive into the overall logistics of the situation, rather just acknowledge everything McInnis has done. In a time where defense is declining to an all-time low, he reinvigorated it as what separates him and his prospects from any other situation. He's a brilliant basketball mind and overall teacher of the game. Majority of the state's best defensive players and most battle-tested guys come from Coach McInnis. Being able to handle adversity and firm coaching translates well beyond winning basketball games. Whether folks realize or not, McInnis has helped countless players'both on and off the court. His significance to youth basketball is obvious.

Even after the smoke clears, McInnis will still be extremely involved with his Team Charlotte organization. They've represented North Carolina well throughout the years between their success in the UAA Circuit and countless number of quality contributors in the college game (and beyond). It's easy to appreciate his unique style (and undeniable success), especially for those with a full scope of the situation'rather than just blips here or there. No one really knows what'll happen next, but expect McInnis to be a coveted name in the coaching ranks.
