6’1 Isaac Parson (Kinston HS) Commits to Winston-Salem State

6’1 point guard Isaac Parson committed to Winston-Salem State via his Twitter. This is a huge get for Winston-Salem State. Parson was recently ranked no. 54 in our North Carolina 2020 rankings and we had projected Parson as a D1 prospect. In our recent article posted a few weeks ago, we stated the following. “Isaac Parson has been the straw that stirs the drink for Kinston HS. The cerebral and fundamentally sound floor general has the ability to score (13.5 PPG), but is a pass first point guard that always has his head up surveying the court. Parson help lead Kinston to another successful season with a 26-4 record and an impressive 8.4 APG.”

We’ve had numerous opportunities to watch Parson play, whether it was for his high school team, camp setting or with this summer travel ball team. Each time, Parson stepped up and met the challenge. We’re talking about a smart, tough and skilled point guard that has the ability to score when wanted and needed, but was more concerned about getting his team involved in the offense. We’re been impressed with his court leadership, unselfishness, and team first approach. For Parson, it was always about winning, getting his teammates involved, and doing anything that benefitted his team. More importantly, Parson is a willing passer and makes the right read time and time again. His head his constantly up, surveying the court always looking up the court, whether it was making the “pitch ahead” pass or initiating dribble penetration for the sole purpose of making the kick out pass to an open teammate.

In speaking with Parson, he stated the following. “The deciding factor was the coaches made me feel like they wanted me and I would be a very important piece of the team. Our goal is to be CIAA conference champions and play for a national championship at the D2 level.” Look for Parson to make an immediate impact early and often. Parson is a proven winner and simply makes his teammates better. He has the ability to score, defend, but has the ability to control and dictate tempo. Parson is battle tested and should be an unbelievable piece to the future success of Winston-Salem State. He will join Samage Teel and should be a great backcourt duo for the future.
