Phenom Hoops was in Indiana,as the top players met in one spot. These are some of the standouts from IndyTop80

De’Avion Washington

One of the many great things about the Top 80 events we do is it provides a platform for everyone to be seen. Of course you have the McDonald’s All American and Top 100 kids who attend, but you also have the kids that people haven’t heard of yet the ability to compete.

This year’s Indiana Top 80 was no different. We had the kids committed to Power 5 schools and ranked in the nation’s Top 100, but we also had players who were not – step up and, in some cases, outplay the others.

Competition brings out the best (or worst) in people. Here are some who stepped up to the challenge

6’3” 2018 Johnny Bernard
Merrillville HS (Merrillville)

Bernard showed to be a great athlete, but also a very craft scorer. He was able to get to a comfortable spot from all 3 levels, including a nice middle game. Bernard is flying under the radar at this point, but with his game and defensive upside that should not be the case for long.

6’3” 2018 DeAvion Washington
Terre Haute South (Terre Haute)

Washington is a strong and athletic guard prospect. He has a good handle and pace in the half court setting. He is at his best getting to the basket and stretching his legs out in transition. Washington has all the characteristics to be a top of the line defender. Washington carries offers from Valparaiso, Indiana State, IUPUI, Ball State and others.

6’8” 2017 Ben Kinker
Oldenburg Academy (Greenburg)

So much intrigue with Kinker. He is incredibly skilled, he shot the ball well, attacked the basket, and rebounded well. Although he needs to continue gaining strength, Kinker was productive throughout the event. Kinker also measured out with a 6’11” wing span, a lot to like here.

5’10” 2020 Michael Saunders Jr
Lawrence North HS (Indianapolis)

Saunders won Mr Hustle for the camp, and did so playing as a throwback type of point guard. He showed toughness beyond his years as a 94’ defender. He did a great job getting his team mates involved and showed the ability to finish for himself. With offers from Cornell and IUPUI, it will be fun to watch Saunders grow.

6’ 2017 Kobe Webster
Park Tudor HS (Indianapolis)

Webster is a confident and skilled guard. He was able to seamlessly switch between the scoring and lead guard positions. He has a nice handle, and shot the ball very well with easy range. Webster is a high academic player who already carries offers from the likes of Western Illinois, Ball State, and Cornell. Schools should look closely here…
