We start diving into prospects down in the state of South Carolina who has had an impressive season so far and who are only freshmen. These players have helped lead the charge for their team, and have put up strong numbers as well. Check out a few names that we have learned about, but also can shed more light on this season.
Terrance Johnson (Stall)
2022-23 Stats: 21.9ppg, 6.6rpg, 1.6apg, 2.6spg
Johnson is personally a new name for me, but the freshman has been putting up great numbers for Stall high school down in Charleston, SC. Johnson is listed as a 6’1 prospect that is leading his team in many categories this season, though Stall has struggled a little bit this season. But you can’t deny a young man who is shooting 54 percent from the floor, 33 percent from three, and has shown the ability to create and get to the line, as well as make his presence felt on the boards and defensively.
Mike Jones (Indian Land)
2022-23 Stats: 19.8ppg, 3.1rpg, 2.8apg, 2.1spg
Moving on to a player that we have seen quite a bit, freshman Mike Jones has shown already that he is going to be a name you will want to remember and has a chance to be big-time in South Carolina. He is quick and explosive, quite shifty in getting around defenders, understands how to get inside and get to the basket, and just has a natural feel as a playmaker with the ball in his hands. Jones easily will be a prospect college coaches will want to see, and the more he develops, the more dangerous he will become.
Tilden Riley (Orangeburg Prep)
2022-23 Stats: 15.4ppg, 10.4rpg, 1.7bpg
Riley is one to start jotting down and monitoring. He has been very strong so far for his team at Orangeburg Prep, putting up strong numbers and being a force down in the paint. Already listed at 6’4, Riley has shown that he has a knack for knowing how to operate down in the post and can really make an impact felt on the boards.
Lance Barnes (Catawba Ridge)
2022-23 Stats: 12.3ppg, 3.4pg, 3.4apg, 2.7spg
Barnes is one that we had at our SC Freshman 40 this past season, and he grabbed our attention then and is doing so once again with a strong season at Catawba Ridge. The freshman brings a non-stop motor to the court, along with a 6’2 frame. He’s a long, sturdy, well-rounded wing prospect with an unselfish approach and the ability to naturally do a little bit of everything on the court. Barnes can make plays with or without the ball in his hands and outworks his assignment well as a defender and rebounder.
Tre Raymon (South Pointe)
Raymon is a player that we noticed as an eighth grader and continues to bring such intrigue with his game as a 6’7 prospect. He is versatile, getting stronger and adding more levels to his game, and he can be a matchup nightmare with his 6’7 long frame and skillset. Raymon understands how to operate from many levels, can stretch the floor, and create for himself, but also finish over defenders and at the rim. There is a lot to like about this freshman prospect.
