Head Coach:' Evan Fancourt
Last year, Southern Guilford had an overall record of 14-11. They finished 9-3 in the NCHSAA 3A Mid-Piedmont conference and are once again is the team to beat. Coach Evan Fancourt returns All-Conference Tyler Dearman and has a surrounding cast that will enable them a deep run into the state 3A playoffs. Now, let's take a closer look at the top players for Southern Guilford.
6'3 '19 Tyler Dearman
We've seen Tyler Dearman several times at our Phenom camps and throughout summer travel ball. We've always been impressed with his attitude and effort. Tyler is a creative shot maker and has nice range on his jump shot. Last season, Tyler averaged double figures as a sophomore on a team that won the Mid-Piedmont 3-A Conference. Coach Fancourt stated, 'Tyler has a reputation as a shooter, but has worked hard and ha expanded his game in the off season. He is now capable of scoring at all three levels. He might not pass the eye test but his athleticism is quickly improving and his basketball IQ and skill set are what makes him different. Tyler can finish with both hands at a high rate. He is somebody that could develop into a high level player very soon.'
6'3 '19 Julius Burch
Julius is the epitome of a true student athlete. He sports an amazing 4.0 GPA and is one of the tops of his class academically.' Coach Fancourt stated, 'Julius is a long, athletic and talented wing, not to mention a well rounded game. He is hard to stop in transition with his speed and length attacking the rim. In addition, he has developed into a consistent 3-point shooter. Julius also passes the ball and rebounds very well from the wing position.' Overall, Julius is a multi talented player with a very versatile skill set. He has a high basketball IQ and solid feel for the game.
6'2 '18 Tyquan McFadden
We've seen Tyquan at past Phenom travel ball events and he is someone that can score easily. He can play and guard multiple positions. Last season, he averaged in double figures and brings another staple in Coach Fancourt's offensive scheme. Coach Fancourt stated, 'Tyquan is extremely versatile offensively. He has the ability to score with his back to the basket, he can score all the bounce, and also has added the ability to catch and shoot a high level.' Tyquan will bring senior leadership and could be a double double guy for Southern Guilford.
5'10 '20 TJ McMaster
Coach Fancourt will look to the sophomore point guard to be the team's floor general. Coach Fancourt stated, 'TJ is a true point guar that possesses natural leadership qualities and has natural floor vision. TJ has the ability to break down defenders off the bounce and finds teammates for easy looks.' Perhaps his most intriguing quality is his on ball defense.' TJ can hound the ball at the point of attack and makes it difficult for opposing point guards to initiate offense.' He is also a good off the ball defender making him a very high level defender at a young age.'
6'0 '19 Mitahji Cooper
Coach Fancourt stated, 'Mitahjj possess unique end to end speed.' He is extremely fast with the ball in his hands.' He has really improved his ability to score in transition and has developed into a good catch and shoot guy.' He is one to watch as he develops.''
