Independence Is Is THE Best Defense in NC

Led by 6’6 Matt Smith (Murray St Signee), 6’3 AJ McKee (Queens Signee), and 6’6 Tyler Harris Independence is one of the most tenacious and versatile high school teams I’ve ever seen on the defensive end.' It’s clear that everybody on the team is completely dedicated to that aspect of the game and it’s obviously a huge reason why they’re the defending NCHSAA 4A State Champions.' When Raja Melton and Anthony Allen are doing their thing running the offense, they’re a dangerous group.' All of these guys bring a lot to the table offensively, but this team is a joy to watch on the end of the court where most teams/players don’t bring it every night.

Village Christian’s Backcourt of 6’2 2019 Travion McCray and 6’3 2020 Zavian McLean Are Junkyard Dawgs

McLean and McCray, similar names, different games, but they flat out get it done each and every time they step on the court, giving their Village Christian squad a chance against just about anyone.' McCray is more of a natural point guard, with the ability to get downhill and attack at will using his athletic gifts and his strength to his advantage up against most of his opposition.' He’s a capable shooter despite not having his best outing from beyond the arc today, and his vision is what puts him over the edge, always looking up and ready to make the right play.' McLean is a silky smooth lefty that can heat up at any given moment from the perimeter with “above the rim ability” when attacking the basket.' He’s continued to work on his in-between game and it shows.' The entire team is worthy of your attention, but with the way the backcourt played today, I felt like they needed some attention.

Trinity Looks Like They’re Really Starting to Put it Together

It’s widely known around the country at this point that Trinity Christian out of Fayetteville is known for producing high level prospects year after year.' With guys like Dennis Smith, Joey Baker, and Audiese Toney in the recent alumni list, it’s clear this coaching staff and school knows what they’re doing in the talent department.' This year’s edition of the Crusaders features 6’7 Providence Signee Greg Gantt, 6’2 Illinois State Signee DJ Horne, Unsigned Seniors 6’3 Talton Jones, and 5’11 KJ Marshall, to go with a group of younger guys eager to contribute.' They look primed for another state title run and I have little doubt they’ll be back in that game this year.' They play in some major events including but not limited to The John Wall and Crown Town Classic, be sure to check them out before their current core moves on.
