Comenius Girls and Spartanburg Christian had Court 4 rolling on Saturday at the Holiday Classic.  It was a tight battle for much of the first half, as Comenius’ young group found themselves ahead early.  Comenius was able to push and play their tempo, create some turnovers, and stay aggressive on offense.  But give credit to Spartanburg Christian though, as they were able to operate and break the pressure on multiple occasions, helping them get in their offense and find the best shot.  At half, Comenius earned the slight 32-25 edge. It continued to be a battle throughout the second half, but Comenius was able to hold their single-digit lead throughout.  Mackenzie Spivey played well in the second half for Spartanburg Christian, but the young guards for Comenius were too much in the end, as they helped secure the 65-54 victory

Stats:
Comenius (Girls):
Tionna Pettus 19 points
Zion Pimentel 11 points
Brooklyn Saunders 11 points

Spartanburg Christian:
Mackenzie Spivey 15 points
Natalie Lambert 13 points
Sam Toney 10 points

Standouts:

2025 Tionna Pettus (Comenius): Just one of many young prospects for this team, Pettus did a tremendous job in being aggressive, attacking the paint and finishing or getting to the line.  She has been a consistent scorer through the event so far, as she has a good feel and ability to find the gaps in defenses.

2025 Zion Pimentel (Comenius): She was really effective when she had the ball in her hands. Whether it was using her dribble to push the tempo and get up the court, attack the gaps and find her teammates, or score the ball on multiple levels, Pimentel had a tremendous showing.

2022 Natalie Lambert (Spartanburg Christian): Lambert brought good energy for her team and really helped create an outside presence on the floor, knocking down three 3-pointers in the game. She moved well on the court, looked for ways to get open, and played hard on both ends.
