Phenom Hoops headed down to the Myers Park Summer League recently, getting a glimpse of some of the talent that will be around the Charlotte area this upcoming season.  It was a fantastic event by Myers Park and was live-streamed by The Hoop State, as we uncovered some storylines to watch.

Gaston Christian was one of a few programs in action that we got to watch and even though this may not be the full roster when the season starts, it gave us some names to watch. The guard play for Gaston Christian will be fun to watch, starting with 2022 6’3 Will Kelly.  Kelly is a well-known name around Charlotte with his play last year, really showing a tremendous IQ, ability to create for himself, and simply a playmaker on the court.  He had some big-time showings on their way to a deep run into the playoffs and Kelly will once again be a go-to leader.

2023 6’0 Derek Bradley is quickly becoming another well-known name, especially with the performances he has put on display this summer for PSB. Bradley is a strong, smarty, sturdy guard that gets downhill but also plays with an unselfish feel to his game.  Whether he is making plays for others or being a reliable scorer himself, Bradley looks to continue his stellar play from this summer into next season.

Another player that really caught my eye and is going to be one to really start writing down more is 2024 6’2 Joe Rhyne.  To simply put it… he is a SHARPSHOOTER, showing tremendous range, confident shooting stroke, and knows how to get to his spots, really being a BIG threat from the three-point line; he showed it time after time at the event.

Those are three that captured my eyes early but that doesn’t mean players like 2022 Greg Brockington, 2025 Christian Petty, 2023 Jacob Bonisa, and others won’t be making their mark as well and playing vital roles for the team.

Gaston though opened some eyes and should be an interesting to team to follow this upcoming season.
