Up along the border of North Carolina and Virginia sits Morehead high school, a school that some may have not heard of before. But we are looking to shed some light on the state and when coming across the Panthers' program, it seems that head coach Damien Price has his team heading in the right direction. The Panthers had a strong season back in 2019-20, finishing 20-7 overall; they also finished the shortened season last year with an 8-6 overall record.

This season though, Coach Price has Morehead sitting at 8-3 and looking to make some noise in the 2A Division.  If they can, it looks to be on the shoulders of the guard duo of 2024 Makel Smith and 2022 Lucas Lynn.

These two have been filling it up this season on the court, combining for nearly 47 points per game (team averages just under 75ppg) and filling up the stat sheet.

We got a glimpse of 2024 Makel Smith earlier in the year during travel ball where he was playing with NLPB, as he made our list of eye-catchers from the event. This is what we had to say:

'The smooth guard caught my eyes during warm-ups and only continued to do so in Game 1 of the Phenom Rise Showcase. A very smooth and confident shooter and creator on the floor, Smith scored in an array of ways and really showed off a fluid shot with his game.' – Patrick O'Brien

And he is doing it again this season, as he is putting up numbers of 25.4ppg, 4.2rpg, 3.9apg, and 2.4spg while shooting 50 percent from the floor and 39 percent from three.

His senior teammate, 2022 Lucas Lynn, isn't far behind him, as he has seen his total rise from last year as well.  Lynn is averaging 21.4ppg, 5.9rpg, 2.2apg, and 1.8spg while shooting 45 percent from the floor and 37 percent from three.

The dynamic duo has been strong to start the season and look to continue to produce at a high level for the rest of the season, as they hope to lead Morehead to a season to remember.
