Getting to Know Brock Bowen

Phenom Hoops travelled down to Carolina Courts in Indian Trail to cover CC Elite 'Skills and Drills' camp. Coach James Fisher and staff did a wonderful job of conducting stations of skill development in the era of COVID-19. Before we get started, we must compliment James Fisher-Davis, Kurt Wessler, Mike Jefferson, and Hillis Haygood for practicing all the health and safety protocols for COVID-19. Upon entering the building, every person had their temperature taken and documented on a 'sign in' sheet. Hand sanitizer was also made available upon check in. The basketballs were wiped down with a disinfectant and all the coaches wore masks the entire time while the players practiced social distancing.

5'11 2021 Brock Bowen (Weddington HS)

Last season, Brock averaged 7.6 PPG, but we expect him to have a much bigger role this upcoming season. Brock has an unweighted 4.0 GPA and a 4.6 weighted GPA, which illustrates the work ethic he has in the classroom. The first thing we noticed during stations was the amount of effort, energy and passion Brock put into every single drill. As we have often stated, when a player works hard in the classroom, that same work ethic carries over to the basketball court and that was the case in point with Brock.

CC Elite coach Mike Jefferson stated the following, 'Brock is one of the best shooters that I've ever coached. He has the ability to fill it up at any time. With that being said, I believe that Brock's ultimate strength is his basketball IQ. He picks up and understands schemes/concepts very quickly. He has a very rare ability to know his strengths and stick within his limits. He never gets out of character, he is never too high or too low, and most importantly, he is willing to do whatever it takes to win.'

Brock is currently getting interest from MIT and John Hopkins, two of the most prestigious academic institutions in the country. With Brock's work ethic in the classroom and on the basketball court, he could have a break out year for Gary Ellington and Weddington High School this coming season. While we only got a small sample size from CC Elite's Drills and Skills Camp, we were impressed with the effort and attention to detail Brock demonstrated throughout the night.
