We’ve seen a lot of players come through our doors over the years, varying in appearance, skill level, and everything in between. We decided to put forth a “Getting to Know” series on some players who have attended events but still remain on the lesser-known side of things. Each of these prospects embodies being a student-athlete and getting it done in the classroom as well as on the basketball court, and today’s edition will take a closer look at Jackson Powers of Davie County High School.
We’ve watched Powers blossom since his middle-school days, stating, “Despite his somewhat unassuming nature and being the youngest player on the roster, Jackson Powers is clearly going to be a massive difference-maker for this squad. He’s a big, strong-bodied post prospect with an incredible motor and an inside-out game that continues to blossom. Powers possesses touch, post moves, perimeter shooting, and terrific rebounding instincts. His blue-collar mentality is evident on both ends of the floor, as he consistently outworks others to provide his team with an edge. He’s a useful screener who understands how to exploit defenses when rolling or popping. Powers is simply a low-maintenance guy who does the dirty work, plays within the team structure, and always seems to be in the right place at the right time. Expect him to be a huge x-factor as a double-double machine.”
There are plenty of prospects who are simply wired differently than their peers, and Powers definitely fits that notion. Although strong, skilled, and productive, it truly all starts with his nonstop motor and selfless mentality. Powers is a blue-collar big man with great touch, toughness, rebounding instincts, and inside-out offensive ability. He overwhelms opponents with his sheer activity level, both on the glass and when making hustle plays, and will do anything possible to provide his team with an edge. Powers is a quality screener, finisher, and floor-spacer who understands how to take advantage of what the opposition is giving him. For a pretty sturdy guy, he gets off the floor quickly and is capable of securing or competing for multiple rebounds in the same position. Powers also plays through contact, makes smart passes, and contains his assignment well defensively. Given everything he brings to the table as a double-double machine, expect him to turn heads over these next two seasons.
