We've seen a lot of players come through our doors over the years, varying in appearance, skill level, and everything in between. We decided to put forth a 'Getting to Know' series on some players who have attended events but still remain on the lesser-known side of things. Each of these prospects embody being a student-athlete and getting it done in the classroom as well as on the basketball court, and today's edition will take a closer look at Carlos Vazquez of Wayne Country Day.

We've seen Vazquez throughout his progression, most recently stating, 'The East Carolina Phenomz are consistently among the better independent travel ball programs in the state, and this year's squad is no different. While their entire team is worthy of attention, Carlos Vazquez consistently stood out as a main catalyst. He's a smart, strong, skilled wing/forward prospect with excellent versatility on both ends of the floor. Very seldom do you see a guy control the glass, dictate the offense, and toggle between multiple positions defensively, but Vazquez did exact that. It was impossible to be anything other than impressed with his leadership, both by example and through production. Vazquez is unselfish and adaptable, which allows him to effortlessly affect all facets of the game within the flow of the action. He pushes the break, makes great decisions with the ball, and finishes very well through contact. Vazquez also hit perimeter jumpers at a nice percentage, consistently got others involved, and made hustle plays on either side of the ball. It would be difficult to say anything other than positives about his showing at our Opening. Expect him to continue turning heads over the coming months.'

Despite being a sophomore on a junior-led roster, Vazquez saw no issue making his presence felt during the high school season. He averaged 8.6 PPG, 6.8 RPG, 2.3 APG, and 1.3 SPG while shooting an incredible 70% from the floor. Since then, Vazquez has only continued to showcase the full arsenal. He's a strong, versatile, well-rounded wing/forward with the blend of IQ, size, and skill to do a variety of different things on the court. Vazquez is more than comfortable at initiating the offense or creating with the ball in his hands, but can also find opportunities as an off-ball threat within the flow of the action. He's a great decision-maker and downhill penetrator with the ability to absorb contact when finishing. Vazquez also shoots the ball at a respectable percentage from distance, rebounds at a high rate, and defends multiple positions. His glue-guy status seems to elevate those around him. Expect to hear about Vazquez a lot over the coming years.
