We’ve seen a lot of players come through our doors over the years, varying in appearance, skill level, and everything in between. We decided to put forth a “Getting to Know” series on some players who have attended events but still remain on the lesser-known side of things. Each of these prospects embodies being a student-athlete and getting it done in the classroom as well as on the basketball court, and today’s edition will take a closer look at Will Olden of Blythewood.

We’ve seen Olden a considerable amount over the last few years, recently stating, “Arguably the top shooting threat on the roster, Olden stands out as a knockdown shooter and great off-ball cutter. He’s a capable initiator and active defender who crashes the glass well for his size/position. Olden gets to his spots in transition, sets up early, and converts at a consistently high percentage from beyond the arc. He can also attack closeouts and finish or make the right pass to an open teammate.” Later followed by, “The Carolina Pressure roster is a really cohesive group, and Olden is a huge reason why. He’s the best spot-up threat on the team and easily among the top shooters in South Carolina. Olden is a great off-ball mover with an understanding of how to consistently exploit openings within the opposing defense. Whether in the corners, wings, or at the top of the key, Olden is extremely reliable. He’s at his best off the catch, but can also create jumpers off the bounce or attack the basket—where he’s able to finish or make the necessary pass to a teammate. Olden is also a reliable defender and willing rebounder.”

Since then, he’s only continued to assert himself as a scholarship-level player. This past weekend at our Phenom Team Camp, he consistently shined in a leadership role for Blythewood. Sure, his usual three-point shooting was on display but he stood out as much more than just a spot-up threat. Olden initiated the offense, created for himself and others, and made a consistent impact defensively. He played hard on both ends of the floor and looked to make hustle plays whenever possible. There’s obvious value in having someone like Olden, who is useful and adaptable to various different roles. Expect various coaches to extend offers during his highly productive senior campaign.
