We've seen a lot of players come through our doors over the years, varying in appearance, skill level, and everything in between. We decided to put forth a 'Getting to Know' series on some players who have attended events but still remain on the lesser-known side of things. Each of these prospects embody being a student-athlete and getting it done in the classroom as well as on the basketball court, and today's edition will take a closer look at Chris Mitchell of Northern Guilford.

We've seen Mitchell numerous times, including at the Nighthawks open gym, stating 'Despite being the youngest and newest addition to this roster, Chris Mitchell already stands out as a clear x-factor. He wasn't with the team during the June live period, as he just recently moved into the state within the last month or so. However, it'll be difficult to envision a scenario where he doesn't receive significant playing time for this group. Though slightly undersized, Mitchell utilizes his blinding quickness, tight handle, and sharp change-of-direction to get legitimately wherever he wants on the court. For the most part, no one was able to actually shut him down or prevent him from attacking off the dribble. Mitchell typically looks to get downhill and finish or make smart reads with defenders on his hip. However, he looked more than comfortable operating without the ball and knocking down perimeter jumpers with consistency. Mitchell also made a lasting impression with his defensive presence, suffocating opposing ball-handlers and frequently intercepting passing lanes. Between his IQ, playmaking sense, and mature game (especially for his age), folks will definitely know about him sooner than later. Add in the Nighthawks lack of traditional point guard play, and his value is even more self-explanatory.' Later followed by, 'Finally, Mitchell represents the only non-senior on the roster. It's easy to see his high level of comfort despite being a freshman, specifically through the smart, unselfish manner he carries himself with this group. Mitchell is slightly undersized but extremely quick and poised with the ball in his hands. He displays sharp vision, tight ball-handling ability, and excellent penetration instincts. Mitchell is already a definite contributor for this group, and should only continue to progress over the summer months.'

Since then, Mitchell has only continued to look more and more comfortable at making his presence felt against the oldest levels of competition. Again, he's the youngest player on the New Light Disciples, but he's more than holding his own. The smart, unselfish floor general is excellent at utilizing his quick first step to get wherever he wants on the floor and set up teammates for quality offensive opportunities. Mitchell is a capable scoring option, but primarily looks to create for others and locate the best available shot. He's a pest defensively, rebounds well for his size, and makes great decisions with the ball in transition. Though still early, folks should definitely be aware of everything Mitchell is doing right now.
