We’ve seen a lot of players come through our doors over the years, varying in appearance, skill level, and everything in between. We decided to put forth a “Getting to Know” series on some players who have attended events but still remain on the lesser-known side of things. Each of these prospects embody being a student-athlete and getting it done in the classroom as well as on the basketball court, and today’s edition will take a closer look at Darnerian Gibson.

We’ve seen Gibson in every possible showing, most recently stating, “There was a slew of pleasant surprises throughout the weekend, which certainly includes Darnerian Gibson and the Carolina Rockets. While the entire Rockets squad was exciting and worthy of attention, Gibson is definitely deserving of attention for everything he brought to the table. He clearly ran the show as the point guard and primary ball-handler, consistently looking to set up others and apply scoring pressure as needed. Gibson touched the paint at a high volume, made intelligent reads with the ball, and hit three-pointers from very deep range. Though slightly undersized, he’s an absolute pest defensively and able to utilize his quickness to harass opposing guards. Gibson finishes well around the basket, but can also pull-up from midrange or find chances from beyond the arc. He understands how to get others involved within the action, locate them in ideal scoring positions, and effectively set them up whenever available. Gibson is a very useful two-way floor general who should only continue to get better and turn heads over the coming years.”

Though somewhat undersized, there’s already an obvious number of things to like about Gibson and his overall identity as a floor general. This past weekend with the Carolina Rockets, he dictated the action with poise and comfortably displayed a balanced approach from the point guard position. Gibson is quick, smart, and able to consistently create for himself and others. He shoots the ball at a quality percentage from the perimeter, but can also attack the basket and finish or set up teammates with relative ease. Gibson is a scrappy defender with sharp instincts and a reliable presence in transition. He does a great job of running a team on both ends of the floor, and should be viewed as a name worth remembering over the coming years.
