Phenom Hoops had a great chance to watch several teams this summer during the team camp live period, as college coaches were on deck all throughout. It gave us though a chance to get an early look at teams and their make-up heading into the season. Though there is still time and things can still change, here is what we saw with Calvary Day.
Calvary Day
Calvary Day had some strong wins last season but ended the year with an 11-20 overall record. But that does include an impressive road victory against Gaston Christian in overtime. The Cougars though are back and will be led by one of the go-to players in 2023 Jaydin Spillman, who is a 6’9 versatile forward that can create matchup issues. With his ability to be effective down low, step out and knock down shots, handle the ball, and his impact on the boards, Spillman should only continue to be a strong piece. Also, make sure you are aware of 2026 Dane Cassada, a 6’2 young guard that has a ton of experience, plays with a great IQ and feel, can score in a variety of ways, and has only gotten better than last season.
2023 7’1 Carter Clark will certainly provide size for Calvary along with Spillman, but there will be several sophomores that will need to step up. When watching this group on the floor, there were several players who could step up and be a threat from outside. But players like 2025 Owen Calvart, 2025 Asher Tolbert, 2025 Nate Keegan, 2025 Carson Barnett, 2025 Josiah Spillman, and 2025 Bryson Mickey all have a chance to make their presence felt, while rising juniors in 2024 Gavin Williams and 2024 Jordan Richardson, and 2024 Emory Blackwell will be key players as well.
