We’ve seen a lot of players come through our doors over the years, varying in appearance, skill level, and everything in between. We decided to put forth a series on some players who have attended events over the past few years but still remain on the lesser-known side of things. Each of these prospects embody being a student-athlete and getting it done in the classroom as well as on the basketball court, and today’s edition will take a closer look at Lawton Fulford of Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach.
We’ve seen Fulford numerous times, including at our most recent South Carolina Top 80, where we stated, “Continuing onto a player that was arguably the best three-point shooter in attendance, Lawton Fulford. He’s a smart, team-first guard prospect that does a variety of things well, but continually stands out with his perimeter shooting. Fulford is a steady, reliable creator for the team but can also slide off-ball and make a nonstop impact as a spot-up threat. He moves well without the ball, possesses nice vision, and is always looking to make the best available play. Fulford plays hard and utilizes his body effectively to get defensive stops and clear out space as a rebounder. Next in his development process is working to get quicker, as it would make him an even tougher penetrating threat. Coach Washington on Fulford: “Lawton shot the ball really well today. He has a really high IQ and feel for the game and plays really hard on both ends of the floor. He needs to work on being more assertive throughout the game.” Fulfordenjoyed an excellent showing during camp and should be a major two-way leader this season for Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach.”
The Christian Academy at Myrtle Beach has seen a ton of talented players come through their doors, and Fulford has been a constant throughout the years. He is a smart, steady, fairly well-rounded guard prospect with the ability to manage an offense or operate without the ball in his hands. Fulford is a capable and willing playmaker, but also stands out quite regularly with his three-point shooting. He possesses a strong, sturdy frame and understands how to utilize his body to absorb contact and fight for rebounds/extra possessions. Fulford is among the steadiest guards within South Carolina and certainly has the tools to help a team at the next level.
