6’1 unsigned senior Jonas James is definitely a player D1 and especially D2 schools should immediately check out. This past summer, Jonas played on the SR1 AllStars out of Ridgeland, Mississippi. The SR1 All Stars are an organization that is made up of high character athletes who are also some of the best players in the state of Mississippi. In speaking with founder and coach Tamu Green, he stated the “SR1 Al Stars have been ranked no. 7 in the nation (AAU ranking) and has won over seven national tournaments while consistently playing on the Adidas Silver Circuit and summer championships.”

We had opportunities to watch Jonas play several times at the Summer Havoc in Spartanburg, SC. SR1 was one of the surprise teams and won the Summer Havoc Big East 17U championship. Leading the way throughout the tournament was Jonas James. In the semi-finals, SR1 All Stars battled back from being 10 points down with less than five minutes to play and beat a very talented Michigan Mustangs team 74-69. Jonas James finished with a game high 19 points including three timely 3-pointers in the second half. His performance against the Michigan Mustangs earned his game MVP award. In the championship game, SR1 All Stars defeated the Atlanta All Stars with Jonas adding 14 points.

With Jonas Jones, we’re talking about a true point guard that exhibits leadership, poise and maturity on the court. Coach Tamu Green stated, “Jonas is a winner and leader who has won seven summer basketball championship and consistently leads the team in assists.”

This season, Jonas has led this high school team; the Murrah Mustangs to wins over the #1 ranked Tennessee basketball team, while leading the team to a #4 overall ranking in the state of Mississippi. He is averaging an impressive 16.6 PPG, 8.2 APG, 4.2 RPG, and 3.8 SPG. More importantly, Jonas is fully qualified.

D1 and D2 schools that are looking for an athletic scoring point guard should definitely give him a look. We were also impressed with his court vision and ability to hit timely passes. Jonas has a high basketball IQ, but it’s his intangibles that are most impressive. He is a very competitive player that has a “never quit” attitude that was demonstrated in leading his team from the come from behind win against the Michigan Mustangs.
