Phenom Hoops traveled to Greensboro to watch Page High School take on Northwest Guilford. It is never easy playing a team twice, let alone in back-to-back nights. This game was full of intensity and energy from the start. Page High School threw the first punch jumping out to a 7-0 lead to start the game. Even though Page ended up winning by 18 points the game was a lot closer than the score indicated. With 3:13 left in the 4th quarter Page had a three-point lead. In the last 3:13 Page went on a 17-2 run and won the game 70-52. 

Page High School were led by their three senior guards (Jaden Ellis, Mike Maxwell, and Zion Connor) and junior forward Josh Scovens. These three guards did a tremendous job causing chaos on defense and forcing turnovers, which led to easy fastbreak points.

Jaden Ellis 2021 6'1 Army Signee (Page High School)

Jaden was in control all night long. He made great decisions with the ball in his hands. He has the ability to create off the bounce to get his shot or create for teammates. He is a really good on ball defender and caused a lot of turnovers with activity on the ball. Jaden also showed outstanding leadership throughout the game. His basketball IQ and leadership will allow him to be successful at the next level.  Finished the game with 15 points. 

Mike Maxwell 2021 5'11 (Page High School)

Mike did a tremendous job getting into the lane and finishing at the rim. The lefty showed that he was extremely confident with the ball in his hands. He used his quick and shiftiness to get past defenders and get paint touches. Did a really good job getting out in transition and getting easy baskets throughout the game. He is also a very good on ball defender who got a lot of steal. Finished with 16 points. 

Zion Connor 2021 6'3 (Page High School)

Zion was tremendous all night. He was extremely active on both sides of the ball. He showcased his athleticism with multiple chases down blocks in transition and finishing above the rim. He is a good playmaker and hit a big-time midrange jump shot during their run in the 4th quarter. Also, during their 4th quarter run he showed his ability to knock down FT's when they count most. He finished the game with 16 points. 

Josh Scovens 2022 6'5 (Page High School) 

Josh is a long, athletic forward. He was extremely active on the boards. He did a great job dominating the paint. He scored on put backs and dump off passes. He has great footwork and hands for his size. Josh has a lot of potential and we can't wait to see him continue to develop and grow his game. He contested every shot at the rim and had multiple deflections and blocks. Josh ended the game with 14 points. 

Jaylen Cross 2024 6'2 (Northwest Guilford)

Jaylen Cross is a name everyone should have on their radar. He is full of potential. We were so intrigued by his game last night. The freshmen has the most upside out of anyone on the court. Jaylen has a tremendous feel for the game. He has a high basketball IQ and makes the right basketball play. He uses his length and athleticism to his advantage. Jaylen also has a really smooth shot from the perimeter knocking in three triples in the game last night. Jaylen finished the game with 17 points. 

Drew Watkins 2022 6'4 (Northwest Guilford)

Even though Drew may be a little undersized for his position, he makes up for it with his toughness and skill set. He has great footwork in the post and uses angles to his advantage to get his shot off. Not only can he score in the post, but he has a great shooting touch from the perimeter. He uses his body really well to carve out space to get good post position and get rebounds. Drew has a high basketball IQ and is really fundamentally sound. Drew finished the game with 9 points. 

Jake Kawalec 2021 5’11 (Northwest Guilford)'

Jake showcased his ability to knock down shots from the perimeter. He has a quick release and every shot he shoots looks like it is going in. He knocked down three 3's and finished the game with 11 points.
