Cooper LaRue has had his fair share of ups and downs, set backs, and personal family tragedy. Coming from a strong family of faith, Cooper has entered his senior season with something to prove and he has done just that. He has led West Forsyth to a 12-2 record and top 10 ranking of the NCHSAA 4A division.
Cooper has always been a fundamentally sound player who understands the game and plays with a high IQ. He has a nice basketball frame with extremely long arms and a soft shooting touch with extended 3-point range. Through 14 games, Cooper is averaging 15.4 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 2.4 SPG, and 2.1 APG. He is shooting 52% from the floor and 45% from the 3-point line. More importantly, Cooper sports an amazing 4.5 GPA.
West Forsyth recently won the local Frank Spencer Tournament and Cooper was selected to the All Tournament team. Cooper has brought senior leadership to the team and has exhibited tremendous poise and maturity. We have always been impressed with his hard work ethic and willingness to perform with maximum energy and effort. While Cooper has a nice stat line, we are equally impressed with his immeasurable intangibles that often don’t show up in the box score. Cooper isn’t afraid to dive on the floor for a loose ball and is a willing rebounder that will mix it up on the interior.
One thing is for certain; Cooper plays like a coach on the floor. He takes quality shots and rarely makes any mental mistakes. Cooper shoots at a high level and we have always been impressed with his court vision and passing ability for his size/position. Without question, Coach Rusty LaRue will lean heavily on Cooper the balance of the season and the success of West Forsyth will fall squarely on his shoulders.
