2019 Luke Bumbalough

Luke is a two-time participant of the Indy Top 80 and has made a huge impression on us at the Phenom Hoop Report. He’s the floor general for New Castle High School (Indiana) and has led them to an impressive 8-1 start. Luke is averaging 12.4 PPG, 4.4 APG, and 4.0 RPG. He is shooting 56% from the floor and 38% from the 3-point line. More importantly, Luke sports an impressive 4.05 GPA in the classroom.

While he may have modest statistics, that only begins to tell half the story. For Luke Bumbalough, he has a list of intangibles that can’t be measured or show up in the box score. First of all, Luke has excellent court vision and passing skills. He is a pass first point guard, but has the ability to score when needed. Luke is a terrific shooter off the dribble and can shoot with range and knock down 3-pointers with efficiency. We’ve been impressed with his ability to be a highly effective floor general. He simply knows how to run a team, but makes his teammates better which is exactly what you want out of your point guard.

At the 2nd Annual Indy Top 80 camp, we stated the following. “Luke was one of the most exciting players at the Indy Top 80. He is a tough as nails competitor that gives maximum energy and effort on both ends of the court. Luke averaged 14 PPG for the three games and demonstrated tremendous poise and maturity for a sophomore. Coach Bennett stated, “Luke is an excellent shooter on or off the dribble. He is very quick and sees the floor and is a great decision maker. In addition, Luke is a terrific defender on and off the ball.” We were impressed with his high basketball IQ and advanced understanding of the game. If he continues to grow and get stronger, we can easily see him outplay his current projections.”

Although Luke maybe considered somewhat undersized, he plays much bigger than his listed height. Plain and simple, Luke is the ultimate playmaker. He plays with poise and confidence and his relentless approach is very intriguing. Luke will not back down from a challenge and his competitive spirit will be coveted by D1 coaches sooner rather than later.
