It is the start of the 2021 year and it is a great chance to put 2020 in the past and look towards the future, which is why we are looking to provide names to watch on all levels.  On the girl's side in North Carolina, we decided to give some players that have been playing well so far this season and could be ones to watch down the road.  This is based on stats provided by MaxPreps, as we look at a few freshmen to start.

2024 Mila Holloway
22.3ppg, 3.5apg, 5.5rpg, 5.0spg

Phenom Hoops got their first glimpse of Mila Holloway at the Diamonds Classic and we were impressed. The young sibling of Aden Holloway, you can see a lot of similarities in their game and it looks like Mila could quickly become a fan favorite, making a name for herself on her own. When speaking to her head coach at Covenant Day, she had this to say about her:

'She is resilient,' she replied.  'Her talent and basketball IQ exceed her age.  She is very poised and controlled with the ball.  She doesn't give up and works well under pressure.  She's mentally and physically tough; definitely a team player.'

2024 Breanna Perry
20.0ppg, 2.5rpg, 2.7spg

Coach Whitehurst seems to have a lot of young talent on their team, with most of their team being made up of freshmen.  Perry is leading the charge early on, showing early that she has that aggressive mindset on the court and looks to score the ball.  You could also look at 2024 Emily Jordan as well, who is averaging around 11 points and 6.3 rebounds as well for their team.

2024 Kelyce McSwain
17.6ppg, 10.4rpg, 1.7bpg

The 5'10 prospect has started the season off strong, scoring in double-figures in each game so far (according to MaxPreps), is shooting 52 percent from the floor, and has five games in which she recorded double-digit rebounds.  Lee Christian, under Donna Taylor, has started out strong and McSwain has led the charge.

2024 Maya McCorkle and 2024 Seini Hicks
McCorkle: 10.5ppg, 4.3rpg, 3.3spg / Hicks: 8.3ppg, 10.3rpg, 2.5spg

Two freshmen at Cannon are looking to be vital pieces for a team loaded with talent.  McCorkle is an intriguing young guard that has found success early on inside the arc but also does a good job in getting others involved and making a presence on the defensive end.  For Hicks, she is continuing to show more of her game offensively but continues to be a dominant force on the boards.  She already has seven games in which she has recorded double-digit boards, and also showed recently her offensive game with 23 points vs. First Baptist School.
