There have been several freshmen that have been stepping up on the high school stage and making a name for themselves early on.  One player that has played well and early is Christ the King's Marco Tampoya, as he has been averaging 11 points and five rebounds this season so far.

Tampoya had several strong showings this summer, filling it up for the Carolina Riptide and he has carried that into his high school season. He has a solid all-around game, has shown a nice understanding early on down low, and uses his length well in an array of areas. When speaking with his coach, Stephen Clapp, he had this to say about his rising prospect.

'He has been great and is really playing well recently! He has averaged around 11 points and 5 rebounds this year. He has played almost every position besides point guard and even played some center for us at the beginning of the year due to injuries. He is very athletic and has always been good in transition. His decision-making in the half-court offense has really improved and his movement without the ball has improved. He is very unselfish and plays within our system.'

Tampoya is one to keep an eye on as he continues to showcase his potential with his game.

What Has Phenom Hoops Said:

'Though young, there's already a lot to like with this Carolina Riptide squad'who has largely maintained their core over the last few years. That being said, Tampoya stood out as one of their main leaders on both ends of the floor with his all-around skill set. Not only has he continued to add strength and develop physically, but his skillset has also improved over the last calendar year. Their chemistry as a group is impressive, and Tampoya's ability to make plays and battle on the glass is certainly vital to their operation.' – Spring Tip-Off in 2021

'Young big has been a solid performer each time I have seen him. Nowhere near a polished player at this time. Everything here is potential. Needs to get stronger, work on his hands, etc…. BUT… He has that length, is always around the ball on the glass (even if he doesn't always pull them in), and can score inside some. Always have to wait on a big, but could be worth the wait here if he develops.' – Phenom QC Showcase in 2020

'Marco is playing his first year of travel basketball, but he's proving to be a quick study. Marco is long and lean and he has good quickness and agility for his size. He plays solid defense, rebounds well and his offensive skills are improving on a daily basis. He's an invaluable addition to the team and he's upgraded our ability to defend bigs and pressure the ball. His greatest strength is his willingness to learn and to improve his game. His ceiling is very, very high and he has a bright future.' – JMAC Showcase in 2019
