Richmond, as a program, has been able to find success on both the boys’ and girls’ side of the court this season so far, both with some intriguing stars for the future. On the girls’ side though, fans around North Carolina may want to pay attention to a young freshman that has been putting up some impressive numbers early on. Jamyia Lindsey, who is part of the 2025 class in NC, has been nothing but spectacular to start the season, as she has been averaging nearly 23 points per game early on.
We wanted to let everyone get a chance to learn a little more about her game and how she likes to operate, as she clearly has become a name to remember. Get to know her a little bit more, her thoughts, and her mindset on the court.
Get To Know:
Phenom: Jamyia, you have been putting on a show early on as a freshman. What has it been like playing at a high level at such a young age and what kind of mindset do you play with on the floor'
Lindsey: Playing at a high level has become normal now, being that I played up in AAU for most of my life. It was kind of hard adjusting to the speed of high school ball at first but after the second game, I caught onto it. Going onto the floor, I put defense first. Defense is what really gets me going offensively. So, I try to focus on making the other team create turnovers early in the game.
Phenom: How would you best describe your game and how you like to attack or operate'
Lindsey: I would describe my game as an attacker. I like to push the ball in transition and I like to get to the rack and finish at the rim or shoot my floater over taller players. I shoot free throws pretty well, so I like to draw fouls. I’ve been working on my mid-range game a lot so that is how I like to operate.
Phenom: As a team at Richmond, you are off to a great start. What have you seen so far this season with your team'
Lindsey: This team has a lot of potential. Especially since we are so young, being that we only have two seniors, only one being in the starting line-up. They are very supportive on and off the court and we have a good connection. Everyone has a certain role on the court and I think we all understand that early in the season.
