Getting a glimpse of K.D. Johnson from Hargrave Academy just last year, you could see that this young man brought something different to the table.  Whether it was his confidence in his game, always going at and attacking opponents, or bringing that killer-mentality, Johnson never seemed to lack what was needed for him to find success at the next level.

And he is putting the SEC on notice early and making Bulldog fans happy in his first year.  At Hargrave, he was a dominant point guard and clearly brought it every time on the court.  It is why he was ranked as one of the top guards in the country, as he averaged 26.2 points, 7.4 assists, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.1 steals per game.  With his play, he helped Hargrave compile a 37-4 record.

One of the last times we got a chance to see Johnson was at the Hoophall, where we had this to say about him:

“Johnson was simply OFF THE CHARTS vs. Orangeville. Scoring inside and out, there wasn’t anyone that was going to stop him and his confidence could be felt from outside the building. Johnson’s blend of athleticism, strength, speed, and burst was tough, especially when he plays his game at getting downhill and attacking the basket. But don’t let that fool you with his range, as he certainly can be a knockdown shooter from three as well. Johnson showed it all and Georgia fans should be excited to watch him in the coming years.”

Now at Georgia, he is bringing that same mentality in the SEC. This year, he is averaging 13.7 points per game, 3.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and shooting 43 percent from the floor and 41 percent from three. Looking back over the last two years, Johnson has proven to all that he is the real deal and what we saw at Hargrave is translating nicely at Georgia. And we have a feeling that he won’t be slowing down, so everyone in the SEC… Watch Out!
