The Phenom Hoop Report is about providing a platform for young players to make a name for themselves in the recruiting circles. This past weekend, we got a chance to take a look at some potential fresh faces in recruiting. Many of these names, college coaches have not heard about and rightfully so. Some of just stepping into the high school scene as their freshman season came to a close. Others haven't had a chance to play for a high profile high school or travel ball program. However, that being said, it's our platform to provide players, high schools and travel ball programs of all levels this opportunity. Today, we will take a look at some players that grabbed our attention this past weekend at the Phenom Hoop State Challenge.

6'8 '17 Ethan Herring of Juice All Stars (Trinity Christian)

Ethan Herring was the glue guy this past year for Trinity Christian out of Fayetteville. He was instrumental in the team's run to the NCISAA 1A State Championship. While the majority of the accolades went to the freshmen duo of Joey Baker and Greg Gant, it was Herring who was rock steady during the course of the season. He averaged over 12 PPG per game was one of the better rebounders in the NCISAA 1A division. This past weekend at the inaugural Phenom Hoop State Challenge, Herring once again enjoyed a solid all around performance. He averaged a double double of 13 PPG and 12 RPG. He played with a high motor throughout the day and is full throttle approach was quite appealing. With Herring, you always expect effort and energy! He was active and aggressive on both ends of the court and we were most impressed with his vocal leadership. He is constantly engaging and talking on the court especially on the defensive end of the court.

5'10 '19 Landon Sutton of NC Gaters (NW Guilford)

We've had the chance to watch Landon play several times at the NC Phenom 150 camp. He's such a heady ball handler and has a high basketball IQ and an advanced understanding of the game. At our camp last October, we stated, 'Landon is a knock down shooter with a solid handle and vision. He is a very good team defensive player who helps well off the ball. Landon'understands, not only the game but also his role on the team. He moves very well without the ball and gets to open spots on the floor.''This past weekend Landon had games of 18, 24 and 25 for a three game average of 23.3 PPG. Again, he demonstrated his overall court vision and ability to hit the 3-pointer along with a midrange game. More importantly, he showcased terrific leadership on the court and throughout the day.
