Today is Championship Sunday! Teams are leaving it all out on the court as they battle for the trophy. We have had nothing but close competitive games here at Smith High School, these are the players that have stood out the most this morning:

2021 6'6 Wing Treyvon Bird – NC Ice 15U

The young wing player does a little of everything for his NC ICE squad. He finished with 28 pts this morning in their victory over NC Empire. The key to Treyvon’s game is versatility, often times bringing the ball up the court and initiating the offense. He does a great job of being in attack mode all game, whether it's getting himself a bucket or setting up a teammate. Treyvon also showed he is capable of knocking outside shots, splashing 2 three pointers comfortably. On the defensive end, at this stage he is capable of guarding all 5 positions. Today, he was the anchor of their 1-2-1-1 press. At 6'6 he alters shots with his long winspan.

2021 6'2 Shooting Guard Ryan Roberts – NC Ice 15U

Ryan had the hot hand for NC ICE in the first half of their NC Empire matchup. His teammates were looking for him early, and Ryan was in the right spots in the right times. Finishing the game w/ 18 pts, including 4 three pointers. (3 of which were in the first half) Ryan helped set the tone for NC ICE alongside his running mate Treyvon Bird. They helped lead their squad to victory, I am looking forward to watching him play again later today. He showed he has a high basketball IQ and a hot hand this morning. Roberts was definitely fun to watch.

2021 6'2 Guard Christian Cornish – Upward Stars Charlotte 15U

At the 15U age group, Christian Cornish is physically imposing at the guard position. More of an combo guard, Cornish can handle the ball and get downhill when he puts his mind to it. Once he gets smaller guards on his hip, he uses his strength to finish at the rim. He has an competitive edge to his game on both ends. He has tools to become a very intriguing guard in the future.

2021 6'0 PG Christian Johnson – NC Empire 15U

Christian was aggressive early and often for his NC Empire squad. He is extremely quick and gets the ball down the floor in a hurry. He constantly put pressure on the defense, NC Ice was in a 1-2-1-1 press making the game fast paced. Christian beat the press several times and made good decisions by either pulling up or kicking to the open man. NC Empire is lead by a very local coach, and Christian is an extension of him on the court. He proved to be a tough floor general this morning, and did a great job of handling pressure. Finishing with 15 point and 5 assist.

2021 6'3 Guard Daniel Lubama – Upward Stars Charlotte 15U

Knows how to fill the stat sheet up quickly. Scoring from all 3 levels in their match up earlier with PSB Elite, Daniel was getting to the rim and finishing with both hands. Most of Daniel's scoring came in succession, as the guard showed a lot of his offensive arsenal in a quick span. Attacking on the break with a strong right hand finish, hitting a three from the wing, then coming back down driving to the rack again with a left hand finish. Lubama will take the court again later on court 1, look for him to continue putting on a show.
