Phenom Hoops was on deck Thursday night for an intense and highly-anticipated matchup between Carmel Christian and Davidson Day; it didn’t disappoint.  Davidson Day took home the impressive 65-53 win on the road but here are just a few takeaways from the game.

Davidson Day plays unselfish basketball and can get after it defensively

It was fun and impressive to watch.  Davidson Day’s ability to get it done on both ends really captured our eyes, especially in the second half.  Offensively, this team is loaded with talent but they don’t let that blind them from playing team basketball. Constantly moving, passing, and finding the open scorer, this is a team that plays unselfish basketball and is the definition of team ball. On the defensive end, especially in the second half, Davidson Day really can get after it, clogging up the lane and allowing CJ Huntley to do his thing, helping on opponents, and really getting a hand in their opponents’ face.  They constantly got their hands on the ball and was incredibly active all night. Their season numbers seem to back that up as well.

Myles Hunter’s size and length makes him tough to defend

This was the second time seeing Hunter in the past week and both times, have been impressed with his production.  The Youngstown State commit has stepped up in the absence of Ben Burnham, scoring 21 points in the loss vs. Davidson Day. But the senior was quite effective especially when he put the ball on the floor and used his wingspan to rise over defenders and attack the rim. Whether it was finishing strong around the rim, showing nice touch with his floater, or showing his range, Hunter has impressed as of late with his play.

Junior Bryce Alfino stepped up big for Davidson

Alfino is being looked at as one of the top prospects for his class in North Carolina and on Thursday, he stepped up in a big way. Already sporting fantastic size at 6’4, his versatility and use on the floor was terrific, scoring inside and out with a smooth feel to his game.  He is an exceptional two-way player on the floor and his outside game was flowing Thursday night, knocking down multiple big 3-pointers for Davidson Day.  Finishing the night with 15 points, Alfino really stepped up on the road and in an important game, getting it done on both ends of the floor.

Senior guard Adam Brazil deserves credit

With the amount of talent this team has in their starting lineup, Brazil certainly gets overlooked but on Thursday night, he deserves credit for his play.  The small guard got it done in several ways, handling Carmel’s pressure, initiating the offense, using his speed and crafty handles to get by and create space on the floor, as well as show his shiftiness to score the ball.  Scored a big 12 points for Davidson Day and played scrappy all night long.
