Far too often we see prospects fall through the cracks and get overlooked in the recruiting process. That certainly seems to be the case with these three prospects, which have flown under the radar far too long, but earned their place at the collegiate level. Prospects should look at this list and remember that not every talented player is a surefire lock to make the Division I level.
Chris Barnette (Mars Hill)
In North Carolina, there is an incredibly short list of floor generals who are more poised than Chris Barnette. The 6-foot-1 point guard has always displayed an innate feel for his teammates, able to effectively contort and manipulate opposing defenses at will. Barnette provides an abundance of perimeter shooting and will continue to bring a sky-high IQ to the game. Mars Hill got their starting point guard for the next four years in Barnette, and should have lofty expectations for him going forward.
Kenny Dye (Queens University)
Already standing as one of the top teams across the Division II landscape, Queens University had big offseason aspirations to bolster their roster, and did just that by adding Kenny Dye. The six-foot point guard plays nearly mistake-free basketball while displaying a really calm demeanor. Dye leads by example and has no shortage of scoring ability, as he consistently showcases terrific polish from all three levels. He has won at every level and will continue to do so with a college roster strong enough to compete with any opponent in the country.
Isaiah Tatum (Bluefield College)
This season was very important for Isaiah Tatum, where he would emerge as the unquestioned leader for Cape Fear Christian Academy. He was one of the most consistent performers for this team all season long and knows how to affect a bit of everything. Tatum scored and passed the ball at a high level on offense while playing bigger than his height would imply on the defensive end. Bluefield College was the only program to recognize how much of an asset and team-first player Tatum could be. Expect the 5-foot-11 point guard to make an even bigger name for himself next season.
