Elite Status Potential in Basketball…No Football…No Basketball…
6’6” 2020 Jordan Burch of Hammond (SC)
Sophomore Jordan Burch is already being recruited at the highest level for football. He is thought of as a Top 100 prospect type as a Defensive End/Tight End. The 265 pound Burch carries early offers from the likes of South Carolina, Clemson, Georgia, UNC, Oregon, Wake Forest, Duke and others…Yes, he is elite.
However, basketball coaches should not let this deter them from recruiting him. Burch makes no secret about it, he loves playing basketball, and he does it very well. As we stated above, it was kind of spread out so we wanted to put it all together and because it pops more, Burch is 6’6” and 265 pounds. The lefties game has some similarities to Anthony Mason with his ability to handle and pass the ball.
Like Mason, Burch is a lefty dominate player. His big body and feel for the game make it very hard for teams to defend. Too quick for bigs and big for guards and wings, he is the consummate mismatch. However, this player is able to move his feet and defend multiple positions on the floor.
Burch is truly a unique basketball prospect, along the lines of Anthony Mason but Antonio Gates at George Mason seems apt as well. For those who remember Gates, he didn’t really check any of the traditional boxes for positions, however you knew he was a player that you wanted suiting up for you. This is exactly what Burch is, except he is one who checks off some boxes.
As with the majority of top players in the state of South Carolina, Burch is a participant of the prestigious South Carolina Top 80 camp. After last year’s performance at that camp we wrote, “Jordan is a very aggressive downhill driver toward the rim. He is a good offensive and defensive rebounder. His ball skills are good in the half court and he is a willing passer. Jordan could grow into a lock down defender, he has the right mindset.”
Burch is a tireless worker and is his basketball game is expanding year over year. After his most recent showing at the South Carolina Top 80 we wrote, “Burch has a great skill set to go along with a college ready frame. He showed good vision, 3-point range, and ball handling ability. Burch is a strong and physical guard. He is able to get to the cup at will. He has elite status potential.” Yes, this is on the basketball court…Elite Status Potential.
While he is known across the country as a football prospect, he is a player coaches around the region need to get familiar with. He is only a sophomore in high school, a true sophomore, standing at a very mobile 6’6” and 265 pounds. He pads the stats across the board, most notably making winning plays on both ends of the floor.
Coaches and fans alike need to get by Ben Lippen School (Columbia, SC) on December 28-30 to watch Burch in Phenom’s Palmetto Winter Classic. Coaches will evaluate him, but fans will be able to see a sure fire college athlete…
