The Phenom PG Nationals was certainly one to remember, as talent was found all over the courts. One player that grabbed our attention was 2025 Duquesne commit Dominique Aekins with Winston-Salem Christian. The 5’9 point guard was electric with the ball in his hands; a true playmaker on the court.
Our own Patrick O’Brien had this to say quickly about his game: “2025 Dom Aekins is electric with the ball. So much fun to watch with the ball in his hands, weaving through defenders, creating for himself, and getting to his spots to knock down shots.”
Diving more into his game, Aekins was incredibly crafty and poised on the court. His change of speed and direction was a game-changer for his team, he had opponents guessing where he was going to attack, he created exceptionally well in narrow spaces to attack the basket, and also proved to be a tough shot-maker from all levels. Terrific handles overall in his ability though, as he had that ball on a string and when you add his quick first step to get by defenders, his athleticism as a 5’9 guard, and his understanding of how to be instant offense, Aekins was one of the more exciting guards to watch at the Phenom PG Nationals.
At the event, he ended it averaging 24.7ppg, 6.7rpg, 6.3apg, and 3.7spg in three games.
