Player: Lamonte Cousar
Class: 2023
Height: 6'6
School: Scotland HS
AAU: Garner Road

Season Stats: In 16 games so far, Cousar has been the go-to player for Scotland high school, nearly posting a double-double on the season.  So far, Cousar is averaging 18.2 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game.  He is shooting 54 percent from the floor and 60 percent from inside the arc.

Cousar was a familiar name for Phenom Hoops over the summer, as the 6'6 sturdy prospect showed that he can be productive when on the court.  He plays with a physical attitude, battling down low and around the basket but also can knock down the mid-range shot.  Add that to his ability to put it on the deck and get by defenders, Cousar is one that you should continue to monitor.  Though his team is struggling a little this year, the junior has been wanting to show more than he can handle the ball more than he already does, that he can space the floor, and also bring a balance of creating opportunities for his teammates but also to score.  While doing so, Cousar has also been putting in the work, trying to improve more on his shooting and a few other areas of his game.

He earned an offer a while back from Kentucky Christian and continues to hear from them every now and then, but this is a young man that brings intrigue with what he provides and his production.  Cousar plans on playing with Garner Road this summer, which could help elevate and bring more eyes his way.

What Has Been Said:

'Finishing up, we look at a player that arguably stood out as the most consistently productive camper on this team, Lamonte Cousar. He's a big, strong, mobile forward prospect with an intriguing skill set and nice offensive versatility. Cousar showed the ability to make plays with the ball in his hands or overwhelm opponents with his motor around the basket. He's a great rebounder with the tools to push transition play and finish strong or set up others… Coach Laney on Cousar: 'Lamonte's strengths is his hands and ability to always be ready to catch the ball and finish. This is an elite skill. He needs to improve his defensive effort and attention to detail on that end of the floor. For his size and position, Lamonte has the makeup to develop into a solid, well-rounded prospect. He should continue to work on foot speed and developing post moves in order to maximize his ability.' Cousar made an excellent impact during his time at camp and should return as the clear leader of Scotland next season.' – NC Phenom 150 Evaluation

'Cousar has really become a popular name with Phenom Hoops over the last month or so. He showcased his game with us at the Phenom 150, where he was one of the more dominant scorers at the camp, and then continued that play this weekend at the Phenom Challenge. He has a terrific inside-out game, using his strong frame to gain advantage down low in the post but also displays good touch on his jumper and stretches the floor. He is quickly becoming a name to remember in the 2023 class and he could be in for a big summer if he continues to produce like he has.' – Patrick O'Brien
