The modern-day basketball approach relies heavily on three-point shooting or the ability to cause mismatches for opponents. The latter part of that statement rings especially true for 6'2 2020 Destin Clark of Indian Land/Team United. On Saturday, the smart, strong-bodied point guard ended his recruitment process by committing to Wingate University, a program that is on the rise and currently just outside the top 25 teams in Division II basketball. We've had the pleasure of watching Clark grow and expand his game over the years, so we sat down and asked him to reflect on his decision-making process.

JB: Talk about what type of factors went into this process for you.

DC: Well, first, I've known Coach Kirkland since my freshman year in high school and he just keeps it real with me. When I went on my visit, they just felt like family. I've played with someone there (Shaman Alston) and know a couple of guys on the team.

JB: What do you like about their program'

DC: I love the program. Coach Good really lets his guards play; they run a lot of screen-and-rolls and that's what I love.

JB: What are your expectations as an incoming freshman and what are you currently working on to prepare'

DC: I feel like I can come in and be a big factor. I would love to start as a freshman. Right now, I'm working on my shot and diet so I'll fit with the team as soon as I come in.

We've seen his progression since entering high school and, although a variety of Division I programs could utilize his services, Wingate certainly secured a steal in Clark. In describing his game, one has to mention his overwhelming strength and ability to touch the paint whenever he desires. Clark is an unselfish, willing passer that consistently looks to get others involved but has the ability to create his own shot with relative ease. He's a quality athlete with incredible feel, vision, defensive/rebounding instincts, and the ability to control the tempo. Clark has showcased the full arsenal in high school, including his remarkably efficient scoring prowess last season (averaging 30 PPG), and will only get better going forward. Expect Clark to continue making his name heard as he goes forward with the Bulldogs of Wingate.'
