The 17u SEC Gold Championship Game was the best game I saw this weekend. Two hard-nosed, physical teams, Denver Nuggets (NC) and DTA Elite (NC), we’re going at each other for 32 minutes and the game would come down to the last possession. The Nuggets bring a balanced free-flowing approach to the game but the play of PG Josh Abee and F Justin Kuthan showed up huge in this one. Kuthan was able to get to the rim early and often carving out space in the paint scoring 22pts and opening up a nice inside out game for other teammates. DTA Elite was paced by some excellent PG play as well from Anthony Allen, a very tough guard who plays physical and loves attacking the basket, who scored a game-high 31 points. 6'7 W Omarion Bodrick, a long, athletic matchup nightmare, was also great for DTA as he scored 18pts including more than a few transition dunks. In the end though, Josh Abee was just too good for The Denver Nuggets. He played with poise the entire game and seemingly never got rattled on his way to 26pts and game MVP. On the games final possession, with the game tied 79-79 and only five seconds left, Abee was able to get up a tough fallaway jumper from the elbow and drained it as time expired. Incredible game from both teams that college coaches should be ALL OVER this summer as both rosters are filled with next level talent. The Denver Nuggets won the game over DTA Elite 81-79.
