Lawrence Frost

Coaches can teach defense all they want but players have to by into that part of their game as well.  When you watch Jeff McInnis' Combine Academy, the one thing that you will immediately see on the floor is that they buy-in on the defensive end and 2020 6'0 Lawrence Frost may be their best defender of the group.

There is something to be said about a player willing to put in the work and the grind on the defensive side of the ball. Frost does all that and more; one simply can't take their eyes off of his game when he defends. There aren't too many players that can get by Frost when he is locked in, especially with his speed, footwork, and strength. But it is something that he prides himself on and the role that Coach McInnis has put on him.

'It has been a great learning process with Coach McInnis and this season has taught me every time I step on the court, I have to play hard like it is my last game,' Frost recently said.  'I like the role that I play on defense; defense wins games.  I'll do anything the coach needs me to do if it is going to help us win.

Coach McInnis from Day 1 talked about defense, saying that if you can't play defense, you can't play for him.  So, we love defense and it has helped us win a lot of games.'

With the way he impacts that game, Frost has been garnering some interest from the likes of Queen University, saying 'they are going to come see me and they want me to visit.'

Frost does plan on making a visit to Queens University at some point but with his play and mindset on the court, there are certainly other programs that could use a 'junkyard dog' like Frost on the defensive end.

What has been said about Frost:

'Electrifying offensive players are a dime a dozen, whereas kamikaze defenders like Frost are truly few and far between. He was already very impressive on that end of the floor throughout his playing career but has taken another step under the coaching tutelage at Combine Academy. Frost plays with such an incredible motor, understands how to eliminate operating space, and possesses a unique blend of strength and agility. He forces turnovers at a seemingly nonstop rate and does so as an on-ball threat and by jumping into passing lanes. That being said, Frost has made strides offensively.' – Jeff Bendel in 2020

'Lawrence Frost is one of the few seniors on this team and his importance cannot go unnoticed. Frost sets the tone for the team's success by his 'in your face' and 'ball hawking' full court defensive pressure applied to the opposing team. In the impressive win over The Burlington School, Frost's defense forced one turnover after another. Frost scored six points and was one of eleven players to get into the scoring column. Frost may not have the offensive skill set as others on the team, but it is his defense that has been instrumental in this team's identity.' – Rick Lewis from Hartsville HS Classic
