Great action this weekend out in Greensboro for the annual David Rose Memorial Day event! This tournament always brings out good teams for a good cause (portion of funds goes to the Wounded Warrior Project). The following are some of the players from the event that you need to know!

Marque Maultsby, 6’2 G 2018 G at Garner HS – Very smooth guard makes the game look easy as either a 1 or a 2. Slender player makes plays all over the floor and seems to be in the middle of everything his team does. He was as active defensively as he was on offense which is refreshing to see in a top player. Very easy game on this kid but one that lends itself to filling up a stat sheet. He needs to put on weight/muscle but other than that all the tools are here to have this kid be a star. His stock is rising. Expect interest/offers to follow this versatile talent.

Kenyon Burt, 6’5 2018 F at Garner HS – Kid just looks like a player out on the floor. When you see him he just looks like a PF should then goes out and actually plays like one. He’s always played with power and has been a factor on the glass but his game is still growing. He showed me that when he broke out his updated passing game in the action I saw. Him being more comfortable with the ball in his hands and being able to hit the open guys around him from the paint is huge. Would like to see him get a bit bigger if he stays as a power player but kid is a fighter so even if he doesn’t grow anymore he’s the type of kid a team can go to war with out on the floor.

Chris Burnette, 6′ 2018 G at Ravenscroft – Why anyone would let this kid touch the ball in the offensive end is beyond me. He is straight nasty with the jumper and can get his shot off in a blink of an eye from anywhere this side of halfcourt. He moves without the ball and finds his spots and when the ball finds him he usually finds the bottom of the net. Kid is not just a shooter though as he is just as comfortable setting you up for plays as he is knocking down shots. An unselfish shooter, sounds like a unicorn right' A scrappy kid he gives good effort whenever he is on the floor. He does not have the bounce/size you typically look for in a 2 but the shot is there for the position all day long. One of the better shooters in the state for his class.

Adrian Scarborough, 6’2 2018 G at Millbrook HS – Millbrook always seems to have some ballers on the roster. This kid looks to be next in line. Watching him in AAU play he jumped out to me as his teams best player. He has the strong body you look for in a G and the type of versatile game that allows him to contribute in a lot of ways for his team. A good athlete he is quick enough to check the other teams PG but strong enough to get their 3 as well. Playing against an aggressive team he showed no back down at all and took it right at the enemy. He is a solid rebounder from the wing as well. All this adds up to the fact that this kid has a ton of potential to tap into. His development will be fun to watch.

John Kirkpatrick, 6’1 2018 G at Wake Christian – John is a skinny shooter off the wing that teams have to get out on in a hurry when he is on the floor. He picks his spots well and seems to know the difference from being a shot taker and a shot maker. Does not try to do more than he should out on the floor instead he focuses in on doing what he can do best to help the team succeed. Like a lot of young kids his handles need work and he is going to have to fill that frame out some but there is a lot to like here in this kids game. Wake Christian hasn’t been a team I have checked out a lot of late but that may have to change going forward. Like to watch how his game grows.

TONS more of player reviews to come from this event so make sure to stay tuned. Until next time, see you in the gym!
