The David Rose Memorial Day Classic had a chance to display many great, young basketball talents around the region. Great players, great coaches, and great games helped make a great weekend of basketball in Greensboro. Here are some of the standouts from the weekend to keep your eye on in the near future.

Jaylen Fornes 6’3 Team Loaded NC
Jaylen Fornes had a great tournament this weekend. He showed that he can score in many ways during the game, whether it be fast break or in the half court setting. He also showed off some of his athleticism, making a couple of highlight plays during the weekend.
JJ Matthews 6’8 River City Reign – Iverson
He played a great big mans game this weekend in Greensboro. He played extremely physical and smart. He lead his team vocally while defending, executing great footwork down low on the offensive side and showing a pretty good midrange game as well.
Davion Mintz 6’3 Charlotte Nets
Davion Mintz is a long athletic guard that can score in bunches. While he can get out in the open court and score, he can also control the tempo of the game at the pace that he wants. He also gets into the passing lanes really well, causing a lot of deflections and turnovers. Look for him to have a big year at North Mecklenburg High School.

Tariq Simmons 6’2 Upward Stars SE
Tariq Simmons is a very quick and athletic point guard who can score and defend at a high level. He does whatever he can to help his team win and can make a play when you need him to.
Donte Tatum 6’2 WCBA Elite
Donte is an extremely quick guard for WCBA who seems like he can do everything on the court. He is quick and has a right dribble, he is physical and not afraid to bang bodies, and he works hard on every single play to help his team win. He had a big year at Cary High School last year, and is on pace for a bigger year coming up.

Chris Barnette 5’10 Team Loaded NC
Chris Barnette is a very efficient, mature guard for his age. He is a great shooter and creative with his dribble. He does not turn the ball over. He has a very high basketball IQ and defends well.
