Continuing to find interesting topics to talk about before the season, the Comets of Clayton continue to be a team of intrigue. Last year, they were able to have a tremendous season finishing 22-7 before falling to Millbrook, and they showcased well this summer at the Phenom Team Camp this summer. They have two clear go-to guys that lead the charge once again, with Grimes and Mitchell being two very talented prospects.
Could this be the year they take the next step and make that deep run in hopes of a title? Possibly, but it will be interesting to see who steps up outside their leaders to help rack up the victories.
Two Clear Leaders
With this team, two clear leaders are helping lead the way once again. 2025 6’9 Andrew Grimes, committed to Liberty already, is such an interesting talent that goes a bit under the radar more than he should. There is so much to like about his size, fluidity, his physical frame, and his impact in so many ways yet there is still room for growth. That makes him very scary and he is coming off a strong season in which he averaged nearly 18 points per game. Right with him is 2025 6’6 Justice Mitchell who has proven to be a double-double machine. Coming off a season in which he averaged 19 points and 10 rebounds, production is the name of the game for Mitchell and we expect him to do the same, especially scoring inside and out as well as attacking the boards. These two alone will help this team win several games much like they did last year.
Others Stepping Up
What will make Clayton dangerous will be who else steps up for this team. 2025 Qua’shaun Williams and 2025 Jeremiah Henson are two that should have more eyes on them in what they can provide this season, as they both return from a good junior season and have a year under their belt. Williams does a nice job in facilitating and being that playmaker while Henson provides another scoring option on the court. After that, if the Comets can get others to elevate their game to bring a balanced attack, Clayton has a chance to really make a strong run this upcoming season.
