The class of 2023 in South Carolina is going to be an interesting one to watch. You have several players making a name for themselves early on, including Jamari Briggs from Hartsville high school. Once you hear Hartsville, you may think of Cesare Edwards, a big committed to Xavier. But the Foxes, who sit at 7-3 on the season, have another rising star with Briggs.
He has continued to grow and develop his game, now averaging nearly 11 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game. That is an uptick from his freshman season in which he averaged 4.3 points and 1.8 rebounds per game.
The big guard plays with a great tempo and attacks on the offensive end, as well as his early IQ on the court. With his size, he can operate and play multiple position and has a nice feel in getting by his defenders to score. But he continues to develop his overall game as he earns more time on the court.
“This season has been pretty good for me,” he told Phenom Hoops. “I feel more confident on the court and it has showed me to let the game come to me.”
There is a reason why Xavier offered him early on, as they have stayed in contact with his coaches still and that shouldn’t be the only schools to come his way with his game. Showing how effective and his growth this sophomore season and the bright future he has ahead of him at Hartsville, Briggs’ recruitment and story should be a fun one to follow.
South Carolina Top 80 Evaluation:
“We look at a player that possesses a nice crossroads between productivity and long-term upside, Jamari Briggs. He’s a strong, sturdy guard prospect with great physical tools and an understanding of how to get downhill and apply pressure. Next in his development process is working on his consistency as a three-point shooter, as it would make him a more dynamic offensive threat. Coach Savage on Briggs: “Jamari did a good job of staying in attack mode throughout the day; always looked to get his shot off or drive to the basket. He has really good size, and you can see he is still growing. With Briggs being 6-foot-3 he was able to elevate over the top of people and bully his way to the basket in transition. With more development on his three-point shot and ball handling, I expect him to be another big-time player coming out of Hartsville.” Briggs highlighted a variety of tools during camp and will be one to watch throughout his continued progression going forward.”
