Each and every time Phenom Hoop Report gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day.  It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.

Here is the latest commitment.

Player: Jarius Northam
Class: 2022
Committed to: Winston-Salem State

What the Player Said:

Phenom: What made Winston Salem State the place for you in the end'
Northam: Honestly, for me, I didn't have many college opportunities like a lot of other recruited 2022's in the state.  Winston was one of the only schools to reach out.  I took the visit there and they were honest with me and broke down how everything would work.  Winston Salem State has one of the best college basketball environments in the CIAA and has a successful winning track record.  The culture was just something that stuck with me.

Phenom: What did they like about your game and what you can provide to the program'
Northam: The coaches like how I bring energy and effort on the defensive side of the ball. Also, how I'm unselfish and willing to do whatever for the team to win. The program is getting a hardworking student-athlete who takes pride in working hard on and off the court.

Phenom: What has your relationship been like with the coaches there'
Northam: The relationship with the coaches has been great. They have always been straightforward and honest with me.

Phenom: What will be your focus now with your decision behind you'
Northam: I'll be focusing on my game, hitting the weight room, getting better and improving on the things I need to work on, and perfecting the things I'm already successful at.

What Was Said by Phenom Hoops:

'Coming off the bench, really just liked the motor and energy that Northam played with; it really helped open this game up in the second quarter.  He is a scrappy guard, plays hard on both sides, and understands what is needed from him when he comes in.  He produced in this game, helped create turnovers, and came in and helped offensively.'

'Though undersized, Northam's status as a useful next-level player should already be quite obvious. He's so tough, quick, and scrappy, which allows him to consistently bother and outwork opponents with his defensive presence. Northam forces turnovers, pushes the break in transition and showed the ability to set up others or attack the basket with ease. He also hit shots at a high percentage along the perimeter.'

'Northam is a smaller guard but also one that can play the point guard position.  He has good handles, finds his teammates in open spots, and can attack when the opportunity is there.  Northam brings depth to the point guard position.'
