His Announcement:

“I grew up in a small city, not much comes from where I’m from, but the love from my community I’ve received has been unconditional.  Throughout my process, I’ve had great mentors, coaches, and support show me what it is to be a player on the court and a respectful man off the court.  I want to give great glory to God as I know he blessed me with the ability to play the sport I love.  I want to thank Teays Valley Christian School, Uplay Canada, Team Canada, Team Ontario, Huron Heights Secondary, and Laurentian Senior Public School for all the love and support.  I want to thank my parents for always guiding me in the right path and always keeping me level-headed.  Secondly, I want to thank all the schools that took the time to come out and recruit me.  I really appreciate all the recruiting you guys have done.  With that being said, I will be taking my talents to West Virginia University #GoMountaineers HailWV”

What He Said:

PHR: What all went into your decision and what were some of the deciding factors that made WVU the place for you?
Davis: What really went into my decision was a lot of things but my biggest things for myself and my parents and coach were academics, the play style and the atmosphere. I really love how they play and my biggest things are defense and watching them and how they play. They love defense and I feel I can fit in with their offense. Academics was probably the biggest thing and they know what I have to do off the court and I know that business will be handled. The atmosphere is the greatest atmosphere I’ve probably ever been in. I was blessed with great host parents and a great school with teachers and students who really care about me as a player and as a student. Those were some of the things my parents and coach and I looked at before making my decision.

PHR: How did you inform the staff and what did they have to say when you told them about your commitment?
Davis: Well after talking to my coach, I then took one night of the week and called the assistant coach and let him know I wnated to make my commitment.

What We Have Seen:

Davis is a familiar name to Phenom Hoops, as we got our first true glimpse of his game as a sophomore when he came to Teays Valley.  At that time, this was a team that wasn’t spoken a lot about early on but made waves throughout the country with the amount of talent they had on the floor, which also included Deivi Jones who is now at DePaul.  Davis though quickly stood out on the court.

At that time, Davis showed a unique ability to be more of a scoring point guard, as he has a tremendous frame for his size that allows him to play physical and he consistently attacked defenses to score.  But as he has grown from when we first saw him to where he is now, you can see that he has fully grasped how to be a balanced point guard, controlling the pace, finding his teammates, and getting others involved, but still having that sturdy frame that he had when we first saw him.

When We First Saw Him:

“Davis is a name that people NEED to jump on now, as he will be a popular name this season and summer.  Davis is incredibly strong and can get anywhere he wants, especially working in the paint.  He has the capability to post up guards as well.  Davis is a strong ball-handler and gets downhill, playing at a fast pace.  He has all the potential to be a Top-100 prospect and one of the top point guards in the country.  He will be a name you will hear.” – Patrick O’Brien in 2019

“Davis is a guy that should have college coaches excited about the future. Just a sophomore, Davis is already poised beyond his years and knows how to properly run a team on both sides of the ball. He utilizes his quick-twitch and strong frame to navigate through traffic, set up others, and finish through contact around the basket. Davis already has a long list of favorable tools but is still just beginning to harness his long-term potential.” – Jeff Bendel in 2019
