Each and every time Phenom Hoop Report gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day. It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.

Here is the latest commitment.

Player: Jalen Breazeale
Class: 2021
Committed to: USC-Upstate

What is USC-Upstate Getting:

A nice get for USC-Upstate, as Jalen Breazeale can really help a program in many ways.  Even though he is listed at 5’11, he brings cat-like quickness to the table on both ends, really being scrappy and active on the defensive end but also pushing the tempo and getting by his opponents to either score or facilitate.  Breazeale also brings a nice leadership quality to the team.  He understands how to run an offense and is not afraid of taking the big shot when needed.  His ability to see the floor, react to the defense, and have a nice blend of scoring and facilitating should help this program down the road.

What Was Said by Phenom Hoops:

“Starting things off, we look at a player that offers a strong balance between scoring and playmaking, Jalen Breazele. He’s a smart, quick, tough two-way point guard prospect with an excellent penetration sense and the willingness to make plays for others. Next in his development process is working on his ability to move without the ball, as it would allow him to play alongside another primary ball-handler with relative ease. Coach Savage on Breazeale: “Jalen is a lighting quick point guard that has a great pace to his game. He does a good job of pitching the ball ahead and getting it to teammates in transition. Has a nice two-dribble pull up & his floater off his right foot is automatic. His three-point shot is consistent and he can fill it up in a hurry. This season, Jalen has big shoes to fill at Dorman but is very capable of doing so. He is coachable, possesses high IQ and a desire to win. Whichever program gets him will get a floor general that knows what it takes to win.” – SC Top 80 Evaluation

“Tough, scrappy, leader; all words that can describe Breazeale on the floor. He did a good job in mixing up his shots, showing that he can penetrate the lane and find ways to get the ball on the rim or step out for his jumper.  He gets it done on both ends of the floor and works well out in transition.”

“I did whatever my team needed me to do in order to win, whether that was guarding the best player or making shots, while also controlling the tempo.” – Breazeale the start of 2020 season

“Breazeale did a tremendous job in leading the charge for Dorman in this matchup.  He showed that he can continue to knock down shots from the perimeter but there weren’t many that could stay in front of him, as he continues to show his speed is an issue.  Using that well in attacking off the dribble and showing just a great feel on the court.  He led the charge on both sides and made big plays in a close game.” – Patrick O’Brien from The Battle
