Each and every time Phenom Hoop Report gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day.  It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.

Here is the latest commitment.

Player: Jamahri Harvey
Class: 2020
Committed to: UNC-Wilmington

What the Player Said:

PHR: What made UNC-Wilmington the place in the end and what kind of relationship did you build with Coach Siddle?

Harvey: UNCW is the spot!  Honestly, it was just the vibe I got from Coach Siddle and the relationship we built early on.  As soon as he got the job, I was the first offer he gave out and he just explained how much he needed me in the program.  He was very persistent as we communicated every day literally.  He told me I will have an immediate impact on the program.  Also, the school is right here at home, so it was just a win-win situation for me.

PHR: Seems like coach has a plan for you.  Did he discuss how he wants to use you on the court?

Harvey: Definitely, he says he wants me to be a combo guard, running the show sometimes and getting buckets.  He says he will throw me in the fire from Day 1 and let me learn from my mistakes and that is what I need.

PHR: What has this journey been like for you over the past year or so?

Harvey: Honestly, it has been rough.  I’ve always played on good teams and what people didn’t realize is I wasn’t always in the position to score 30 every night, even though it was obvious I could.  I’m a team player and if my other teammates were hot, I was going to give them the ball, while still trying to do me as well.  So, I dealt with people saying I wasn’t good enough or I was inconsistent.  I feel like a lot of colleges passed up on me because of that also.  But my biggest thing was to just stay focused because I knew I’d find the right place for me, whether it was a high-major or a Division II school. Now, I’m just glad I have somewhere to call home for the next couple of years.

PHR: Got anything to say to your future fans at UNCW?

Harvey: Be ready for a crazy journey that is about to start!

What Was Said by Phenom Hoops:

“He’s a long, wiry wing prospect with athleticism and a quality all-around feel for the game. Harvey offers an excellent balance between smooth-shooting and rugged hard-nosed athleticism when attacking the basket. He’s a very efficient three-level scorer that gets downhill and can rise up against any type of opponent. Harvey can create for himself and pull-up off the bounce or spot-up and knock down shots off the catch, both with relative ease.  Coach Roberson on Harvey: “Jamahri is a smooth scoring guard that can get where he wants to go on the floor. He needs to play hard on every single possession on both ends of the floor. He has all the tools to be a successful Division I player.” Harvey is a proven entity that has seemingly found success against every type of competition, so it’ll be interesting to see where he ultimately decides to further his playing career at the next level.” – NC Top 80 Evaluation in 2020
